Alfred Hurwitz, 91, died Wednesday, December 9, 2009, at the Jewish Home of Central New York. A lifelong resident of Syracuse and a graduate of Syracuse University, Alfred was the owner of DeWitt Cyclery until his retirement in 1983. He served in the U.S. Army as a second lieutenant in the Pacific during WWII, member of Onondaga Post 131 JWV, a former member, served on the board of directors and active in the Men\'s Club at Temple Beth El, member of Temple Adath Yeshurun and Philo Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge. The family would like to thank all the staff at Menorah Park for the wonderful care that they provided to Alfie. Survived by his wife, Esther Hurwitz; sons, Ronald (Susan) Hurwitz, Larry (Kathy) Hurwitz and Daniel Hurwitz; five grandchildren, Nathaniel, Melissa, Philip, Rachel and Erin; sister, Shirley Rouff; a niece, Cindy; nephews, Jack and Michael; and granddog, Lulu. Service will be conducted 10:30 a.m. today, Dec. 13, 2009, at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, 1909 East Fayette Street. Friends may visit with the family at the chapel today from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Beth El Cemetery.
