April 3, 2004 Jerry Hoffman, 85, died Saturday at St. Josephs Hopsital. Jerry was a deputy assessor for the City of Syracuse for over 20 years, until retiring in 1980. He was a member of Temple Beth El, Philo-Mt. Sinai Masonic Lodge, and the Civil Service Work-ers. A veteran of WWII, Jerry served as a Sergeant in the European theatre and received a purple heart and cluster, a bronze star, and five battle stars. He was a member and past commander of Onondaga Post 151, Jewish War Veterans. Survived by: his wife of 58 years, Mildred; sons, Brian (Valerie) and Frederic; a daughter Susan (Bill) Crabtree; sisters, Helen Sorkin, Phyllis Charney, and Floreen Levi; and grandchildren, Benjamin, Annie and Danielle. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Chapel. Calling hours from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, 1909 E. Fayette St., Syracuse.
