Services for former Syracuse resident Sarah Paikin, 87, who died Monday in Margate, Fla., will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Birnbaum Funeral Home. Burial will be in Beth El Cemetery. Calling hours will be 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, 1909 E. Fayette St. After the services, friends may call at their convenience at the home of her grandson, Mark Paikin, 7416 Old Erieview Drive, Fayetteville. Mrs. Paikin lived in Syracuse 50 years before moving to Margate five years ago. She and her late husband, Zelic, retired in 1960 as the co-owners Paikins Paint and Wallpaper Co. on South Salina Street. Mrs. Paikin was a member of Temple Beth El and one of the founders of Young Israel of Syracuse. She also was a member of Mizrachi Womens Organization and one of the founders of the Syracuse Hebrew Day School. Mrs. Paikin was also active in many other religious and philanthropic organizations in Syracuse. Surviving are two sons, Lester of Margate and Leon of Newberry Park, Calif.; a brother, Louis Trif of Lauderhill, Fla.; a sister, Rae Borsky of Syracuse; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
