Jack Groskin of Fayetteville, passed away Sunday, April 10, 2011. Jack grew up in Syracuse and attended Central High School where he played football and learned the meaning of hard work. At the age of 13 Jack began his working years selling newspapers on the corners of Salina and Onondaga Streets and continued with similar employment working at the age of 16 as a bus boy in the Rainbow Room of the Hotel Syracuse. In 1942, at the age of 17, Jack joined the Marine Corps and was part of the 4th Marine Division, 2nd Battalion G-Company. This Battalion landed him in the Pacific on the Island of Iwo Jima for one of the most horrific battles of WWII. Jack proudly served his country for four years until he was discharged in 1946. Upon returning to the states after WWII, Jack continued working in various capacities. First as a wholesaler in men\'s clothing and then partnering with Julian Polge who jointly formed Seafood Distributors in 1949. In June 1952, Jack married his sweetheart Hannah Stone of Syracuse.
