Malvina J. Sherman, 85, of Syracuse, died peacefully at her home on Thursday, September 14, 2006. She was born on April 8, 1921, the daughter of Rabbi Isadore David and Lillian Jacobs. Malvina taught English at Jamesville-Dewitt High School for more than 20 years retiring in 1986. She married Paul Sherman in 1943. He predeceased her in 1997. After retiring, Malvina remained active, participating in water aerobics and tutoring students in English. She belonged to a Mahjong Club and played for more than 50 years. Malvina\'s reputation as a wonderful cook and baker was well known and she shared her many recipes with friends and family. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Jules and sister, Lola Jacobs. Survived by her three sons, Steven J., Martin L. (Mary) and Philip L. (Andrea); her sister, Marion (Albert) Sands; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, June Sherman, Betty Jacobs and Lucy Sherman; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2006 with her son, Cantor Philip L. Sherman officiating at the Birnbaum Funeral Chapel, 1909 East Fayette St. Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Sunday from 1 to 2 p.m. Burial will be in Beth El Cemetery.
